the single greatest movie climax.... ever

It's long. It's Bollywood. And IT MUST BE WATCHED TO BE BELIEVED

Superstar Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai star in the movie Endhiran The Robot. Rajinikanth is a scientist in India and Aishwarya Rai is the beautiful asisantant. Both are creating a Robot who can think like human is the dream of Rajinikanth. And it's awesome/stupid

Thanks to Nick Hayden for this insanity

A Montage of Movie People Getting Slapped in the Face

10 o'clock live

This is a new UK topical show that's very much in the vein of 7PM Project only it's on once a week, late at night and perhaps more driven to comedy than straight news as Charlie and the gang.

As a general rule, Brits tend to give good Panel but this one comes with some rather impressive talent. The show is hosted by David Mitchell, Jimmy Carr, Charlie Brooker and Lauren Laverne. Its got a lot of rough edges but the talent is clearly there.

Mostly, I just like seeing the execution of the production. As a piece of studio television its quite nicely directed (save for some odd stray angles). The opening shot is great, the graphics are stylish, the set is deeply camp and of course the happy-gassed studio audience are amusing.

Whaddya think?

Thanks to Chris Taylor for pointing this one out.

UPDATE - Seems a few of you are taking issue with my comparison to 7PM. I only mention it cos its the closest ananlogy (panel show, mix of comedy + news). I cerainly don't wish to bag 7PM. I readily understand people's complaints about 7PM, but it's still a very difficult one to make. They turn around topical news/comedy packages in one day, 5 nights a week, 52 weeks a year. But the even harder part is trying to do all of this while capturing a broad Channel 10 audience. Its a big ask, and I think they should be applauded for makin' a go of it.

review: black swan

stuff white people like: the series

I'm sure you're all over this but Portlandia is a new comedy created, written by and starring Fred Armisen (of Saturday Night Live) and Carrie Brownstein (from Sleater-Kinney). It revolves around a surreal version of Portland, Oregon... but is really a wonderful piss-take on hipster culture in general. Win.

trailer: rubber

A killer tyre movie. I have no words.

heat vs l.a. takedown

Heat is widely regarded as one of the best crime movies of all time, certainly one of the best heist movies. Directed by Micheal Mann (The Insider, Collateral, Miami Vice) it took decades to make it to screen. At one point he almost gave up and shot a stripped-back verion of the film for tv. It was called LA Shakedown. To me, this one scene replicated in both productions is one of greatest ever demonstrations of how acting can change worlds. Compare...

LA Takedown

and now when performed by, yknow, real actors in Heat

Scene starts from about 45 seconds in.

trailer: black dynamite

now THIS is how you rebrand a network

Note to Australian networks that maye be considering a rebrand (ahem... ABC1 + ABC 2) THIS is how to rebrand a channel. Particularly one that's supposed to be "young and edgy" (Ahem, Go, 7mate, Eleven)

Pay attention:

For more about how they did it, read up this great piece on Motionographer

henry and aaron.

This is a really excellent comedy duo from Perth WA named Henry & Aaron. They made me laugh. And now I would very much like to see them on TV. Please, tv gods, make this happen.
