about...

Marc Fennell is a tv presenter, radio broadcaster, author, film critic and all round mischief-maker. He is probably best known around Australia as “That Movie Guy”. His tongue-in-cheek film reviews reach over 1.4 million people each week across triple j, ABC Local Radio and Network Ten’s The Circle.

When Marc was 19 he was selected from thousands of applicants to present on The Movie Show for SBS Television. Fennell hosted a cult DVD segment there for 2 years before he was recruited to triple j radio and jtv. He has also presented for Showtime and Movie Network and interviewed some of the biggest names in cinema from Geoffrey Rush to Robert Pattinson. In 2011 HarperCollins published Marc’s first book That Movie Book: Awesome Weird and Wonderful Films for Every Weekend of the Year.

But Marc isn’t just a movie reviewer.

Fennell was selected by Andrew Denton to present on the ABC’s Walkley and AFI nominated current affairs show Hungry Beast. Over three seasons Marc wrote, produced, directed and fronted packages that traversed comedy, technology, politics and popular culture. Hungry Beast saw Marc experimenting with supposed ‘digital’ drugs, interviewing the head of the Jedi church and hacking into security cameras. Fennell even held a contest to see if Telstra’s rural Internet service was faster than a homing pigeon. The pigeon won.

The success of Hungry Beast lead to Marc’s own radio series for the ABC. Download This Show is a technology and digital culture programme that airs on ABC Radio National, ABC Local Radio and throughout the Asia Pacific region on Radio Australia. It is the number 1 technology podcast in iTunes Australia. Marc can also be seen regularly commentating on ABC News 24 and on Paul Murray Live on Sky News. Fennell even turned his love of pop culture and technology into the live comedy show Massage My Medium at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival along with Hungry Beast co-star Dan Ilic.

Marc maintains an active online presence with over 21, 000 digital followers across Facebook, Twitter and Google+. He fronts and co-produces the webseries Coming Sooner exploring the art of movie trailers and also the digital series Bollywood For Beginners for SBS.

Marc is regular speaker, MC and presenter having worked with The Australia Council, Adelaide Festival Centre, Sydney Writers Festival, Sydney Film Festival, Popcorn Taxi, APRA and more.

Marc is represented by Erin Keneally at Mark Morrisey and Associates.
