picking my hottest 100 of all time... help?!

So triple j is running The Hottest 100 Of All Time. To vote you can only pick 10 songs.

Suffice it to say, this is the hardest thing I've ever done or am likely to do in my life.

I've got it down to 27 songs. and now I need help. Firstly, in case you haven't noticed: I'm clearly a pansy and many of my song choices support this fact. Nuff said. Which of these songs would you pick???

rebellion (lies), arcade fire

life on mars, bowie

tiny dancer, elton john

no cars go, arcade fire

ABC, jackson 5

let it be, beatles

brick, ben folds

such great heights, postal service

bohemian like you, dandy warhols

tiny vessells, death cab for cutie

building steam with a grain of salt, dj shadow

your song, elton john

unfinished sympathy, massive attack

bittersweetsymphony, the verve

oasis, wonderwall

the pixies, where is my mind

hey ya, outkast

hurt, johnny cash

wolf like me, tv on the radio

sunday bloody sunday, u2

hoppilpolla, sigur ros

saelgopur, sigur ros

two more years, bloc party

talk show host, radiohead

dont panic, coldplay

mad world, gary jules

breathe me, sia

I like. I like. A few of those are on my as yet undefined list too. SO far I have a rough list:

God only knows - the beach boys
Paranoid ANdroid - Radiohead
Hallelujah - leonard cohen
Falling Slowly - Glen Hansard
With or without you - U2
Crowded House - better be home soon/fall at your feet
Indigo girls - power of two
The beatles - yesterday
Phil Colins - against all odds
John Farhnam - You're the voice
Elton John - your song
Coldplay - warning sign

That looks a lot like my shortlist! I am also having difficulty deciding what the hell to vote for! Definately the hardest task I all every undertake and I know I'll kick myself later for those songs I will have forgotten!

tiny vessels?? Of all dcfc songs? That's weird!

You expect that from me! Otherwise I approve. Except, you are missing nookie by limp bizkit! You need to help get it to number 1

God Only Knows should be number one.

I'd definitely leave out Hey Ya and Elton John, but that's a really tough list to whittle down. And that's coming from the guy who voted for Ladytron's Seventeen, so what do I know?

I'd probably include "Heaven or Las Vegas" (Cocteau Twins), "Unfinished Sympathy" (Massive Attack), "Streets of Philadelphia" (Bruce Springsteen), "Horror Head" (Curve), "Just Another Day" (Queen Latifah)... and if I can get away with it, "Vogue" and "Like a Prayer" by Madonna.

If I were you Marc I'd drop:
bitter sweet symphony (it's good, but not top 10 worthy)
hey ya (I find this song incredibly annoying actually)
two more years
and one sigur ros song. You've got 2!

If you want my two cents, I'd pick "Unfinished Sympathy."

I admire your bravery for picking the Elton John songs. Let's be honest, Tiny Dancer is a cracking tune. Nice work.

Funny reading this... I did my own Top Songs list on my little blog recently. Can see here: http://importanceofideas.com/2009/05/18/my10-songs-that-make-me-sing/

Hope you find some inspiration amongst them. Certainly agree with a lot of people - God Only Knows has to be the greatest song ever written...

Asking me which ones I'd cut wasn't fair you know lol. I've listened, debated and been suitably angst ridden by it. So far take out Tiny Dancer, ABC, Bohemian like you, Hey ya, saelgopur, down to 22 lol I really think Triple J should be giving us a list of a couple of hundred songs and we get to click on 10 - would save a huge amount of brain strain.

Oh and dh said "What, No Joy division?" (well done lol)

oh jesus, from reading what's here, this top 100 is going to be blandness central.

here's my vote:
lists are a big wank and a complete waste of time, by common sense
