transformers: revenge of the fallen (reviewed on triple j)

Could this be the unintentional comedy event of 2009? Check out the audio review down below.

I really should point out though that I know a lot of people that quite enjoyed it. Personally I thought it was so bad that it was, well, like I say: Craptastic.

I suspect that there'll be tonnes of dissagreement on this movie so I really wanna know how you found it. Lemme know in the comments section.

Don't forget you can download all of mah film reviews + flicked in the triple j movies podcast. And if you don't have iTunes you can check em out on the web here.

this film was spectacularly uninteresting. and this is coming from a guy who is 17. i felt so out of place among my friends when i announced after the screening that i hated it and was soon insulted from every direction. it appears this film is really for those that can't be bothered thinking. after all it is directed by a guy who directs the same way a child colors by numbers. there was no interaction or invitation to be involved within the story-line at all, and i felt the the only parts i enjoyed were the characters of the parents of sam witwikki and the other character of the ex sector 7 agent. whose roles were for completely comedic values. the only thing i truly loved about the first one was the sound, so many hours must have gone into developing the sounds of the tiniest detail. but with revenge of the fallen, it appears Bay fired the original team for the sound and hired someone who was told to create a clutter of noise and use the sound of the transformers transforming until the cows came home. and the addition of the near porn-star girl that is megan fox in nearly every scene with shia was just another way to sell tickets. overall i felt tremendously disappointed, even when i had gone into the cinemas knowing it was going to be an extravagant and obviously expensive craptacular event. even the fight scene felt overstimulating, in the bad way.

I went in knowing it probably wouldn't be as good as the first. I was right but i still didn't mind it.

It is obviously a movie for the fans. I mean being a fan of the Original 80's series i can appreciate the subtle nods in the movie to various things. I even got a Fanboy chill when Soundwave appeared and Frank Welker was doing the voice (He originally Did SoundWave's voice in the 80's show)

But i do understand where people are coming from in regards to not liking it.

The Plot is a little hard to follow. The Human characters don't get as much development time as was in the first. The Transformers themselves don't get much character development either. I also didn't think it was as funny as the first.

Visually it's fantastic, but their were times when you could get confused as to who was fighting who. In the first Movie at least you knew everyones names as well.

But even with all those things i still didn't mind it. But i'm a fanboy and grew up on it.

I'm pretty sure this is going to be one of those films where either you like it or don't.

That was the best review... it was hilarious... you are so right, about EVERYthing... haha. I adore Shia but they gave him the worst lines :(

But yes, the action was massively impressive. And how horrible was the "my apprentice" bit !

I loved Optimus Prime though.
The first movie was so good! I'm so annoyed.

I haven't seen it, but Ouch! I tend to agree with all your reviews, so I presume I would agree with this one too. Yes, I have valuable comments to add...

If it's so bad, why are all the critics even bothering to review it?
I wrote an article about how negative reviews still add to the hype machine here: http://notfilmschool.com/?p=48

@fraserorr

why review it?

well, im paid to review films. so there's that.

But the bigger issue is this: its a film thats being advertised left, right and centre. there is a certain interest level amongst the community. my job is to act as an independent voice to analyze whether its really worth spending your cash on. to be sure, my opinion is subjective and certainly wont align with everyone's tastes, but hey thats part of the gig. But just sticking your head in the sand because its gots lots of press doesnt make much sense.

that said, i read your article and i like your style. so cheers on that front

THANK GOD FOR MARC! I was so pleased to hear your opinion mirrored mine and that it was not unwarranted bitching from a film snob, as many of my friends have labeled my criticisms of this film.

I watched it last night and was horrified at how awful it was.

I did up a review here: http://filmvisuality.blogspot.com/2009/07/review-transformers-revenge-of-fallen.html

I think my viewpoint is summarised in my opening paragraph:

"Transformers 2 was like a turd put on screen. Then, they light it on fire, which is interesting for like a second. Then they keep lighting the turd again and again and you get really tired of seeing nothing but a flaming turd, at which point you realise that all you are watching is a piece of shit."
