Finally got round to reviewing Star Trek for triple j. I'd like it noted that unlike every other film reviewer on earth (and beyond) I have resisted as many bad Trek puns as possible. There are no 'stellar performances'. The film is not 'out of this world'. It's not "warp speed fun". The movie IS however extremely awesome. Enjoy my beaming review [zing] it's only 2 minutes, go on, you know you want to hear it:)I really wanna know how you found the film. lemme know in the comments section.
UPDATE: Trek fans appear not be taking this movie well. See below.

Abso-bloody-fabulous. The movie was great, without a doubt, and the slightly more edgy feel was good.
The choice of actors, also, brilliant.
There were a few surprises that, admittedly, were pleasant, offering a new sweetness to the dish - but, you are 100% correct about the timeline, time travel and black hole anomalies ...
that really ...
distracted ...
me ...
a lot ...
even more than the disjoints about kirks dads demise and the large jumps around kirks youth ...
Overall, though, you're right, it left me bouncing out of the cinema - actually hungering for more. This was nicer than the full 3 course meal that was the last few ST flicks. Sure they fed you with your expected meals, and the guest chef added something a little different to each menu, but in the end, you knew what you were going in for, were satiated and left content ...
... I prefer the feeling of wanting to go back for seconds.
Star Trek is simply awesome. All of the characters are very enjoyable, especially Chekov and Scotty. I'm still a little upset about Vulcan being obliterated, but seeing Nimoy as Spock again kinda made up for that. The retro ending was very cool too.
I've just realised that the alternate reality created by time travel in the new Star Trek movie has render all the previous Star Trek movies and TV shows obsolete... Oh Vulcan, please come back to existence!

I wrote in the above review that basically I loved it - so much fun, although without any real intelligence haha.
